Local news WCAX Channel 3 highlights that "trashed food scrap tons have decreased by 13% since 2018."

The findings come from the 2023 Vermont Waste Composition Study published May 23, 2024. You can find the full report here.  

While this demonstrates the success of the Vermont composting mandate, it is clear that we still have more work to do. 46.3% of compostable waste still ends up in Vermont's singular landfill, causing harmful greenhouse gas emission.
